The etching depicts a rugged landscape with structures leading up to a church steeple on a distant ridge. The horizon line is high in the image below rooftops and the steeple. The brushwork consists of detailed lines and hatchings adding texture to buildings and rocky outcrops. Close to us is dense vegetation depicted with swirling strokes contrasting with the linear treatment of the path and hillside. The color palette is monochromatic using black and grayscale shades to convey depth and form.
