The image shows a woman seated in a horse-drawn carriage by the seaside, depicted from about her waist up. She is positioned slightly sideways, looking toward the viewer and holding a long, slender staff with a butterfly resting on top. Her facial features include soft, delicate lines and she has long, dark hair mostly covered by an elaborate wide-brimmed hat adorned with foliage. The woman's clothing is a long-sleeved, high-necked dress with a floral pattern. She is wearing gloves and holding the staff with both hands. The carriage, with its spoked wheels and wooden structures, is by the ocean, with waves gently lapping at the shore in the background and some foliage partially obscured in the foreground.
