The image depicts a work scene with figures dressed in striped clothing engaged in manual labor. They are surrounded by large wooden structures with a chute leading up to a large barrel. The horizon is defined by rolling hills in the upper third of the image. The brushstrokes or pencil marks have a sketch-like quality with shading and texture. The color palette is monochromatic, using shades of gray. Closest to us, several workers are visible, with one holding a tool. In the background, more figures are seen ascending or descending the steps.
