Artist, American, 1832 - 1920

The image shows a forest of gnarled and twisted trees. The trees dominate the scene with their sinuous forms and rugged textures. The horizon is not visible, as the trees fill the composition from the foreground to the depths of the wooded area. The style features etching techniques, with fine lines and dark, shadowy areas enhancing the textures of the bark and branches. The color palette is primarily sepia, giving an antique look and allowing the contours and shadows to stand out vividly.
