The sculpture depicts a sphinx, with the body of a lion and the head of a human. It is made of a dark material, possibly bronze or a similar metal. The sphinx is in a recumbent posture on a stone pedestal, with its forepaws extended forward. The sculpture is positioned prominently on a high platform reached by stairs in the foreground. In the background are leafless trees.
