The image depicts an elevated point of view of a vast, open landscape with sparse vegetation and trees. The horizon is high, just above a line of trees in the middle distance. The brushstrokes are expressive and sketch-like, with dark lines for texture and delicate lines for the sky and clouds. The color palette is monochromatic in shades of sepia and black. A lone, gnarled tree is in the foreground on the left, with smaller trees in the distance against a clear sky with a few wispy clouds.
