The image shows a perspective from a dock, overlooking a body of water. The horizon is near the top of the image with a faint haze. Smoke rises from a distant vessel on the horizon. Vertical posts line the edges of the dock. The brushstrokes are intricate and overlapping, creating a textured look. The artwork is in a monochromatic palette of deep blacks and soft whites, giving a sense of stark contrast and moodiness.
