The image shows a man from the waist up standing in a slightly relaxed posture, with his left arm resting on an unseen surface, and his right arm hanging by his side. He has curly hair protruding from beneath a hard hat, and his face is covered in coal dust except for the area around his eyes. His mustache is also noticeable against the dark face. He is wearing a partially unbuttoned shirt with rolled-up sleeves, and a respirator mask hangs around his neck. His shirt is open enough to reveal part of his chest, which is also covered in coal dust. In his left hand, he holds a miner’s lamp. The background shows a metal structure with riveted beams and a fluorescent light fixture.
