Artist, British, 1822 - 1902

This image shows an ancient temple complex surrounded by dense tropical foliage. Conical stupas rise above the landscape, obscuring the horizon with temple structures and trees. The sky fills the upper part of the image, with the tallest stupa reaching towards it. The stupas' intricate details stand out against the organic forms of the trees. The sepia-toned color palette creates a warm, nostalgic atmosphere, emphasizing the age and history of the scene. Light and shadow areas play across the composition. Grass and trees in the foreground provide a lush base, while the towering stupas add a vertical element to the scene.
