The image shows a traditional building with a thatched roof positioned slightly right of center. Tall palm trees with sparse fronds rise above the building, dominating the skyline and infringing into the sky. The horizon is obscured by trees and foliage surrounding the structure. The ground is dusty, leading to the raised construction supported by numerous pillars. The structure is slightly elevated with a ramp on the right side and a partially enclosed balcony visible. The color palette is monochromatic with a sepia tone, giving a vintage feel. The image displays detailed photographic quality with a contrast between the structure's texture and the smooth sky.

signed by artist, lower right on print in black ink: L. Tripe; printed in typeset on white paper adhered to mount, lower center beneath photograph in black ink: No. 38. Amerapoora. Portico of the Residency. / This covered a square of ninety feet having a dome-like roof of thatched bamboo, and closed on the outer side by a Poscenium for Marionettes, draperied with blue cloth laced with gold and silver. In this / portico, the ground being the stage, were performed pu-es (the Burmese opera) for the amusement of the members of the mission.
