The image is a black and white photograph of a narrow, wet cobblestone street viewed from a low angle. The cobblestones closest to us shine as they reflect light, creating a textured, glossy pattern. As we look further along the street, the scene narrows, leading to a vanishing point where a figure is silhouetted against the bright background. Buildings on either side of the street are tall and shadowy, their features fading into darkness as they extend upwards. The horizon is suggested by the end of the street where the light source illuminates the distant figure. The overall palette consists of a range of grays, from deep shadows on the wet pavement to lighter tones of reflections and background illumination, giving the scene a timeless, atmospheric quality.
