The sculpture is an embossed medallion featuring a side profile of a man with curly hair tied at the back, who is dressed in period attire with a high collar and cravat. The name "BUFFON" is inscribed on the left side of the medallion, and the bottom edge bears the inscription "N. RIVERA F." The medallion is made of a bronze material, as indicated by its metallic brown and green patina with areas of natural tarnish. The detailed carving provides a three-dimensional effect, with the profile raised in relief against the flat surface of the circular medallion.
