Edward Lamson Henry

Painter, American, 1841 - 1919

This painting depicts a large red brick mansion at the center, surrounded by two connected brick structures, one of which seems to be in ruins, as well as white tents and trees with sparse green leaves. In front of the house, people that seem to be soldiers in blue uniforms ride on horseback or in carriages towards the house. More people in uniforms can be seen sitting or standing on the lawn or standing inside the windows of the house. Two people stand on the top of the house, one holding a while flag with a red dot in the center. There is an American flag above the doorway of the house. The sky above is mostly gray with small patches of blue.
