Winslow Homer

Artist, American, 1836 - 1910

The image shows a woman seated on a cushioned bench or chair. She has her body turned slightly to the side, with her head tilted downward and her eyes looking away from the viewer. Her facial features suggest a contemplative expression, and her hair is pulled back in a loose style. She is wearing a long, light blue dress with puffed sleeves and lace detailing, accentuated by a dark blue ribbon at her neck. She holds a piece of white fabric in her hands. To her side sits a small, decorative item painted in red and beige with a floral pattern. The background features a muted, textured surface in shades of brown and gray.
