The image shows a head-and-torso portrait of an elderly woman standing in a marketplace or shop. She is facing slightly right and is captured in profile. The woman has a prominent nose and chin, deeply set lines around her mouth, and wears round spectacles. Her hair is light-colored, neatly parted down the middle and pulled back, tucked under a black beret. She is dressed in a black coat with a fur collar, beneath which she wears a patterned dress or blouse with a decorative pin at the neck. She holds a handbag in her left hand, and there are various meats displayed in a glass case to her left, which is partially visible in the foreground. The background is slightly out of focus, showing other people and various items on shelves or counters.
