Provenance

The artist; consigned or sold June 1929 to (M. Knoedler & Co., New York), as Bust of Anna; purchased December 1929 or January 1930 by James Parmelee [1855-1931], Cleveland and Washington;[1] his estate; bequest 1949 to the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington; acquired 2015 by the National Gallery of Art.

[1] Knoedler records list the sale to Parmalee as taking place in December 1929 (e-mail of 22 September 2006 from Edye Weissler, Knoedler librarian, to Jennifer Wingate of the Corcoran), while the Corcoran accession record gives Parmalee's purchase as taking place 2 January 1930; both e-mail and accession record in NGA curatorial files.
