The artist; Charles Pollock [1902-1988], from 1929;[1] acquired 1981 by (Salander-O'Reilly Galleries, Inc., New York); purchased 16 December 1981 by the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington; acquired 2014 by the National Gallery of Art.

[1] Early provenance according to Thomas Hart Benton: Synchromist Paintings 1915-1920 From a Private Collection, exh. cat., Salander-O'Reilly Galleries, Inc., New York, 1981. Pollock studied under Benton and sublet Benton's apartment in the summer of 1929. He found this painting with others in a suitcase that Benton evidently gave to him.
