Painter, American, 1788 - 1865

The image shows a portrait of a woman depicted from the chest up, seated and facing slightly to the left. Her facial features are defined with pronounced cheekbones, a firm jawline, and light-colored eyes set under well-defined eyebrows. Her hair is not visible as it is covered by a white cap adorned with lace and a bow on top. The woman wears a brown garment with a high collar and ruffled shirt underneath. Around her neck, she wears a string of yellow beads or pearls, and small earrings can be seen. The background is plain and neutral.
