The sculpture on the coin is of an astronaut in a spacesuit descending a ladder, referencing the iconic moment of the Apollo 11 mission. The astronaut, wearing a helmet and carrying a large backpack, is stepping onto a textured surface that represents the moon's surface. The color of the sculpture is a uniform bronze. It features high relief detailing, capturing intricacies such as the folds in the spacesuit and textured surface. Engraved around the periphery of the coin are the names "Neil Armstrong," "Edwin E. Aldrin Jr.," and "Michael Collins," along with the text, "MAN'S ETERNAL QUEST OF SPACE EXPLORATION." In the center of the design, "APOLLO 11" is inscribed.
