Artist, American, 1809 - 1875

The image shows a natural arch rock formation standing prominently on the right side of the scene. The horizon is low in the image, with a small mountain or island and a ship visible beyond the arch in the open sea. Delicate brushstrokes and lines detail the rock and clouds, with shading defining textures. The color palette is muted with soft beige tones and lighter hues accentuating the clouds and waves. A small rowing boat is visible in the waters, adding scale and activity to the scene.
