Commissioned 1867 by William Wilson Corcoran [1798-1888], Washington; gift 10 May 1869 to the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington;[1] acquired 2015 by the National Gallery of Art.
[1] The painting was the first painting accessioned into the collection of the Corcoran Gallery of Art.
