The man is sitting on a bench in an attic room. He has long hair and a wrinkled face. He is wearing a coat, waistcoat, and knickerbockers, with laced shoes. His hands are clasped together on his lap, and he is looking out of a window. Next to him, there is a table with papers, a quill, an ink bottle, and scissors. On the floor, there is a pitcher and bowl, a basket of onions covered with a cloth, and a hat. The backdrop includes a bed with simple coverings and slanted walls. The window is open and there are drawings or notes pinned to the wall near it.
