Provenance
Purchased 1980s with two other sculptures of hands by William H. [1929-2020] and Abigail Booth Gerdts, New York;[1] gift 2018 to NGA.
[1] Per documention from Abigail Booth Gerdts provided with the gift, in NGA curatorial files. According to the inscription on the sculpture, Lady Neave had the work made, at the Villa Reale di Marlia in Tuscany, Italy, as a souvenir for her three sons. The Lady Neave named in the inscription has yet to be fully identified.
