Alfred Stieglitz

Artist, American, 1864 - 1946

The image shows a view from the ground level of an outdoor scene. The horizon gently slopes in the distance, formed by a range of trees and a slight hill. A narrow path or road curves along the lower part of the image. Near the path, tall grass and wild plants line the edge. In the center, a tall, slender tree stands slightly off-center to the left. Behind it, dense foliage of taller trees creates a dappled canopy. The image has a monochrome palette, with soft sepia tones highlighting the sky and deep shadows among the trees. The interplay of light and shadow adds texture and depth.
