upper left of mount printed in brown ink on applied paper: "Hell's Half Mile." / This section of Ladore Canyon received the title / "Hell's Half Mile" when Major Powell and party / were on their expedition through the Green and / Colorado River Canyons in 1869-1872. / This picture was made on Kolb Brothers photo- / graphic expedition through these same canyons, in- / cluding Grand Canyon of Arizona. Their journey / began at Green River City, Wyoming, and termin- / ated at Needles, California.
