Two people wearing brimmed hats kneel, facing us between furrows as they pick potatoes out of the dirt in this black and white photograph. Both of their faces are mostly covered. The person on our left has dark-skinned forearms. The person on our right wears long sleeves but might also be dark-skinned. Full sacks sit at close intervals along the furrows on the right two-thirds of the picture. The horizon comes almost to the top of this composition, so only a narrow band of empty sky lines the top edge.
