Artist, American, 1914 - 2001

The image depicts a landscape with a steam locomotive pulling freight cars, moving left to right from an elevated point of view. The horizon shows leafless trees and a distant wood line. A dense plume of smoke rises from the train, dominating the upper part of the composition. The color palette is monochromatic, emphasizing the contrast between the train and smoke. Grass, a fence line, and slopes can be seen below the train. Hills, trees, and more distant scenery provide depth to the image.
