This is a photograph of an entrance to a dugout or shelter. It captures a wooden structure built into an earthen mound, with a doorway and a small window on the right side. In front of the shelter, there is a wooden ladder leaned against it, leading up the mound. The ground around the entrance appears to be barren with scattered twigs and debris. The image is a stereoscopic one, displaying double photographs side by side. It has an orange border with the text "THE WAR FOR THE UNION. PHOTOGRAPHIC HISTORY."
