Seven Man Gun Crew

c. 1863

American 19th Century

Associated Names
The image shows six men positioned around a large cannon, visible from head to toe, standing on a grassy field. Four of the men, at the ends and on both sides of the cannon, have either an arm or leg resting on the cannon, and the two men in the middle stand directly behind the cannon. Their faces vary, with one man having a full beard and the others having different degrees of facial hair ranging from clean-shaven to mustaches. All the men are wearing caps and military attire. One man holds a small bugle or a similar wind instrument. In the background are open, flat grounds with conical tents pitched in the distance, suggesting a camp setting.
