This illustration depicts the upper half of a man seated in a slightly turned position, facing forward. He has detailed facial features, long curly hair, and is wearing an elaborate coat with fur lining on the collar and cuffs. He holds a paintbrush delicately in his right hand and his left hand rests on the edge of a large canvas or portfolio. The background is minimal with a lined border. Below the portrait, there is a text paying tribute to Watteau.
