Albrecht Dürer

Associated Names
Albrecht Dürer

Artist, German, 1471 - 1528

The image shows a man standing upright with his head slightly tilted to the side. His hands are crossed at his waist. He has a solemn expression on his face, with a full beard and curly hair falling to his shoulders. He wears a crown of thorns. His upper body is bare, revealing a muscular chest, while a draped garment covers the lower part of his body. Beside him is a gnarled, leafless tree to his right. The backdrop features a simple landscape with undulating terrain and distant hills, creating a desolate outdoor setting. To the left of the man, there is a faint sketch of landforms on the ground, with a small inscription at the top left corner of the image.
