Artist, German, 1867 - 1956

The image depicts sailboats on water from a slightly elevated point of view. The horizon is placed about a third down from the top, separating the sky and water. On the horizon, silhouettes of more boats can be seen. The brushstrokes are broad and fluid, giving the composition an impressionistic feel with a focus on movement and atmosphere. The color palette is predominantly cool tones, with blues, purples, earthy browns, and subdued oranges.
