This is a painting of three phalaropes in different poses. The image shows one phalarope in flight, one standing on rocky ground, and another perched on a rock. Each bird has detailed plumage in earthy tones of brown, reds, grays, and blacks. The background includes a sky and a distant seascape, with grassy elements in the foreground. The style is reminiscent of John James Audubon.
