This is a painting of two birds against a backdrop of a mountainous landscape. One bird is flying and the other is swimming. The flying bird is a Smew duck with black and white plumage and red eyes. The swimming bird is also a Smew with a red-brown head. The water has gentle ripples and the background shows a mountainous landscape with layered ridges. The sky is a pale blue color.
