The image depicts the upper half of a man's body in a three-quarter view. He is turned slightly to his left with a composed expression. His facial features are detailed, including sharp eyes and a prominent nose, and he has short, curly hair. The man is dressed in a formal outfit typical of the early 19th century, consisting of a high-collared shirt with a cravat, a waistcoat, and a jacket. There are no visible jewelry or objects on him. The background is plain, emphasizing the subject. Below the drawing, the name "The Hon[ora]ble Frederic Sylvester North Douglas," along with the years of birth and death, the artist's signature, and the date "1815" are inscribed.
