The image shows a stone bridge with a canal lock spanning across a body of water. Numerous mast of docked ships are visible in the distance, and trees line the scene on either side of the bridge. On the right side of the image, there are tall buildings with architectural details typical of the period. The image is a detailed etching, with fine lines and cross-hatching techniques used throughout. The palette is monochromatic, and various tones depict different elements in the scene. There are small boats moored along the water's edge, with figures engaged in activities.
