Painter, Flemish, 1578/1590 - 1656/1661

This is a painting of a dark cathedral interior with grand architecture: high vaulted ceilings, arches, columns, and a checkered floor leading to a distant altar near the center of the painting. Light comes in through some arched windows on the left, illuminating patches of the wall, floor, and ceiling. Several people are in the cathedral, walking, sitting, or kneeling by smaller altars. They wear a variety of clothing, some colorful and intricate, others plain and dark.
