British Museum duplicate (Lugt 301 and Lugt 305). Rudolf Gutmann [1880-1966], Vienna (Lugt 2770) [1]. (Christian Nebehay, Vienna); (William H. Schab Gallery, New York); sold 3 November 1947 to Lessing J. Rosenwald [1891-1979]; gift to NGA, 1948.
[1]This print inventory no. 824 of the Rudolf Gutmann collection confiscated by the Nazis in Austria in 1938. The collection was stored at the Zentraldepot in Vienna and transferred to the salt mine at Alt Aussee. The print was restituted to the Viennese dealer Christian Nebehay acting on Gutmann’s behalf in August 1947 (Restitution decision in Zl. 4716/47; export license in Zl 4694/47 dated 11 August 1947, all Bundesdenkmalamt, Vienna, copies in NGA curatorial files).
