The image shows an urban scene in winter, with snow covering the ground. The horizon is obscured by mist, giving a hazy, distant quality to the scene. Buildings fade into the fog. A horse-drawn carriage moves down the snow-covered street, slightly right of center. On the right, a street lamp is visible, and a person walks beside a railing further along. Buildings on both sides of the street recede into the mist. The scene is monochromatic in shades of grey and white, with occasional darker contrasts from the carriage and figures.

The image shows a man leaning his head on his hand, positioned with his face resting on his left hand. He has a mustache, thin-framed eyeglasses, and thick, greying hair that curls slightly at the edges. He is dressed in a formal jacket, a white shirt, and a black bow tie. The background is a soft, dark blur.
