This print depicts several smooth, flowing shapes with soft curves and rounded edges. These shapes form the scene of a seated adult with a child sitting on their back, held up by a sling. The adult and child are both facing away from us. The adult appears to be sitting cross-legged on the ground, their head slightly bowed. They are holding a bundle of long, thin, cylindrical objects in their hands. The sling holding the child seems to be balanced on the adult's forehead and crosses over their shoulders. The adult seems to have long, dark hair and be wearing a dress or skirt, but it is unclear. The child has short hair. The background is filled with thin, cross-hatching lines, with some lighter areas on the floor below the seated adult.

More About this Artwork

This is a black-and-white photograph of a rocky landscape with a patch of scrubland stretching out into the distance. Closest to us, on the left side, a tall rocky mountain rises up. Standing on the rocks is a woman with her back to us. She has long, dark, straight hair that falls down her back, and she is wearing a dark, long-sleeved shirt and a wide white skirt. In her left hand, she appears to hold a rope, or perhaps her hand is tangled in her long hair. In her right hand, she holds a large square object with a handle that looks like a radio or similar device. She stands behind tall, dark gray leafy plants. On the right, the background reveals a vast open terrain dotted with small shrubs under a light gray sky.

You may know Georgia O’Keeffe, but have you heard of Tonita Peña? Learn about the many artists inspired by the Southwest.

A woman is shown from behind in a white dress with a black sweater hanging over her shoulders. She stands looking towards two abstract paintings hanging on a white wall. A two piece vibrant yellow painting hangs to the left. On the right is a painting with two triangles of kelly green one of which is inverted so they meet in the middle of the canvas. The remaining left and right of the canvas is a solid white.
