Lucas Cranach the Elder

Artist, German, 1472 - 1553

The image shows figures in armor and a central, partially clothed figure emerging from a tomb. The central figure stands confidently, raising one hand in a gesture, while carrying a staff with a banner in the other. Around this figure, several armored figures appear startled, with some having fallen to the ground in dramatic poses. The background features a rugged landscape with distant buildings atop hills, and a large tree stretches its branches over the scene. Above the scene, there are two shields with heraldic symbols.
