The image shows two women seated closely together on a sofa inside a room. Both women are visible from the upper body up. The woman on the left has shoulder-length hair and wears a long dress with full sleeves and a shawl over her shoulders. She sits upright and smiles gently towards the other woman. The woman on the right leans towards the left woman with her head bowed, partially covered by her arms. She appears to be holding something delicately in her hands. Her hair is pinned back, and she also wears a long-sleeved dress and jewelry on her wrists. In front of them is a round serving tray on a low table with a coffee pot, cups, a vase of flowers, and tall candlesticks. A small cat stands with its back to the viewer, looking at the women. In the background, there is a framed portrait of a person in historical attire, and vertically dividing shadows, possibly from a window.
