Dove (La colombe)

1949

Pablo Picasso

Artist, Spanish, 1881 - 1973

A snow-white dove stands out against an inky black background in this horizontal lithograph. The blended strokes that make up the bird are soft and flowing, contrasting with the darker, textured background. The dove's wings are folded back, and its tail points to our left while its beak, articulated with a couple black strokes, faces to our right. The eye we see is articulated with a black circle, and a few tufts of feathers stick up from the back of its head.
