The image shows the upper half of a man seated with his body slightly turned to the left, gazing directly at the viewer. He has a high forehead with receding hair, and a well-groomed beard and mustache. His attire consists of a buttoned garment with an elaborate ruff around the neck. He holds an open book in one hand. Surrounding him is an ornately decorated frame featuring two figures at the top; one skeletal and the other a winged creature with a staff. The background within the frame is a simple, hatched pattern, with a floral decoration at the lower sides. The bottom section of the image contains text about the person depicted.
