Artist, English, 1571 - 1625

The image shows an engraved portrait of a man from the waist up, positioned in profile facing to the right. He has distinct facial features with a prominent nose, a slightly recessed chin, and tightly closed lips. His hair is covered by a hat with a wide band and a ring-shaped ornament on the side. He wears a robe with elaborate patterns over his shoulders and holds a scroll in his hand. The background is plain with horizontal lines creating a shaded effect. An inscription below the portrait identifies the person as "THOMAS WOLSEY CARDINALL, ARCHBISHOP OF YORK & CHAUNCELLOR OF ENGLAND: Died Nov. 29: 1529."
