Artist, Dutch, probably 1598 - 1637

The image depicts an older man in an engraving. He faces the viewer with his body slightly turned. He has a high forehead, prominent eyebrows, a long pointed beard, short hair with a part on the side, and a receding hairline. He wears a detailed jacket with decorative buttons, a high lace collar, and holds a rolled document in his right hand. In the background, there is a patterned texture and a coat of arms in the upper right corner. Below the portrait are two small scenes with allegorical figures: one being attacked by a monstrous figure, and the other being cared for by another individual who is washing or anointing them. The engraving includes the text “FLY FROM EVEL DOE GOOD.”
