The image is a portrait of a man within an oval frame that resembles a wreath. The man is facing slightly to his right with his left hand resting outside the wreath. He has a mustache, curly shoulder-length hair, and wears a garment with a lace-trimmed collar under a dark outer garment. There is a pin or brooch at his neck. Surrounding the portrait are two winged cherubs on columns, both writing or drawing with open books in front of them. Garlands hang from the columns and there is an inscription on a draped cloth below the portrait. Books, a quill, and a simple textured background are also part of the image.
