This is an engraving of a man from the waist up, positioned facing slightly to the left but looking directly ahead. He has a long beard, mustache, and combed-back hair. He wears a ruff around his neck, a dark robe with light-colored sleeves, and holds a book in his left hand. The robe has a medallion on the chest. In the background, there is a lined pattern. On the left, there is a coat of arms with a bishop's mitre. Below the portrait, a description in Latin and English identifies him as Joseph Hall, Bishop of Norwich, with details of his death and age.
