The engraving shows a man from the chest up, slightly turned to his left and looking at the viewer. He has long, wavy hair, a small moustache and pointed beard. He wears a dark cloak over a textured, lace-collared white shirt. The portrait is in an octagonal frame with decorative elements, including a banner and a crest at the bottom center. The background has a dark, cross-hatched pattern. The engraving is titled "The True Effigies of Sir James Harington Knight and Baronet," with additional inscriptions in the outer border, possibly in Latin.
