The image shows a man resting his head on his hand with the rest of his body also visible. He is depicted with a slightly turned position, resting his right elbow on a surface with his left hand partially visible as it lies across his torso. The man has a mustache and a pointed beard, with receding hair styled neatly. He is wearing a detailed garment with a high, lace-trimmed collar and a fur-lined cloak or robe. The sleeves of his clothing have intricate designs with patterns and bands. The background shows draped fabric and the word "PHILOSOPHVN" inscribed. In the foreground, an emblem of a heart with a lock appears, alongside a key, with the name "Sr. Henry Wotton Kt." inscribed.
